How to use this page
This Disclaimer explains what Car Facts UK vehicle information can help you understand, where the underlying information has limits, and which checks still belong alongside a vehicle report.
Car Facts UK is designed to support a better-informed decision, not to replace the documents, physical vehicle checks and professional advice that may be appropriate for a particular purchase.
Section 01
What this Disclaimer covers
Car Facts UK is an independent private vehicle-information service. We are not part of, endorsed by or acting on behalf of DVLA, DVSA, the police, an insurer, a finance provider or another government or official vehicle registry.
References to official bodies or public services describe information sources, checks or guidance that may be relevant to a vehicle. They do not imply endorsement of Car Facts UK.
This page applies to Car Facts UK vehicle checks, paid reports, comparison reports, valuations, calculators and related information tools. Our Terms & Conditions set out the contractual terms that apply when you use the service.
Section 02
How to use a Car Facts UK report
A Car Facts UK report is decision-support information. It can help you review recorded vehicle details and history in one place before you decide what to do next.
No vehicle-history report can physically inspect a car or guarantee its present condition, future reliability, safety, roadworthiness or suitability for you.
Where a report shows no recorded issue for a particular check, that means no relevant issue was returned to Car Facts UK by the sources used for that check at that time. It is not a guarantee that an issue could not be unreported, unmatched, recorded elsewhere or added later.
Best used together
Use the report alongside the vehicle itself, the seller's documents, the V5C, VIN, service history and any mechanical inspection that is appropriate for the purchase.
Section 03
Vehicle data sources and timing
Vehicle information can come from official and public records, specialist vehicle-data sources and other records available to Car Facts UK for the relevant check or report.
We aim to present that information accurately and clearly. However, underlying records can be affected by reporting delays, matching differences, corrections, provider availability and updates made after a report is generated.
A report therefore reflects the information available to Car Facts UK when it is generated. A later check may legitimately show newer or corrected information.
Section 04
Vehicle identity and physical checks
Registration numbers can be transferred, retained, changed or reassigned. A registration lookup should therefore be used alongside checks that the physical vehicle and its documents agree with one another.
Before buying, check the V5C, seller information, VIN or chassis number, vehicle details and physical condition. Service history, invoices, keys and a professional inspection can also provide useful evidence that a data report cannot replace.
GOV.UK's used-vehicle buying guidance also recommends checking the details held by DVLA, MOT information, safety recalls, the V5C and the vehicle identification number.

Finance, stolen, write-off and mileage markers
Where available, Car Facts UK may show recorded markers or information relating to matters such as outstanding finance, stolen records, insurance write-offs, mileage, ownership, valuation or vehicle specification.
These checks depend on the information available from the relevant sources. They cannot guarantee that every private agreement, incident, claim, unreported problem or later update has already reached those records.
If a report shows a material warning or conflicting information, investigate it before proceeding with the vehicle. If no warning is returned, interpret that result in the context of the data available when the report was generated.
Section 06
MOT, recalls and roadworthiness
MOT history is useful evidence about recorded tests, mileage and defects at particular points in time. It is not the same as a current mechanical inspection and does not guarantee the vehicle's condition after the test.
Safety-recall information can also change as manufacturers and official records are updated. A recall check should be treated as an important safety check rather than a prediction of the vehicle's general reliability.
The person responsible for using a vehicle must still make sure it is safe and legal to use on the road.
Section 07
Valuations and running-cost estimates
Any valuation, fuel-cost, running-cost or ownership-cost figure shown by Car Facts UK is an estimate or guide based on the information and inputs available for that calculation.
Actual vehicle values and ownership costs can vary with condition, mileage, specification, history, location, market demand, repairs, insurance, tax, fuel prices and other factors.
A valuation is not an offer to buy or sell a vehicle, and a running-cost estimate is not a quotation or guarantee of what you will personally pay.
Section 08
Third-party links and external services
Car Facts UK may link to external websites or services that can be useful during vehicle ownership or purchase research, including areas such as insurance, finance, warranties, servicing or other automotive services.
An external provider is responsible for its own website, products, prices, eligibility decisions, contractual terms and customer service. A link from Car Facts UK does not make that external service part of Car Facts UK.
Some external links may involve a commercial or affiliate relationship. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how those relationships are identified and kept separate from vehicle report results.
Section 09
Reliance, liability and statutory rights
You are responsible for entering the correct registration number and for making your own decision about whether to buy, sell, finance, insure, repair or otherwise act in relation to a vehicle.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Car Facts UK is not responsible for loss caused by a decision made solely from a report, or by an inaccuracy, omission, reporting delay, unmatched record or later change in information that was outside Car Facts UK's reasonable control.
Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, and nothing removes the statutory rights available to consumers.
UK consumer law includes protections for services. Section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides that a service supplied to a consumer must be performed with reasonable care and skill.
