Eligibility
To purchase a report you must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a legally binding contract.
Section 04
When you can use a vehicle registration number (VRM)
You may look up a vehicle using a VRM if you have a legitimate reason, including (but not limited to) where:
- You own the vehicle (you are the owner/keeper), or
- The vehicle is for sale (you are considering buying/selling it), or
- You have a genuine need to check the vehicle (e.g., confirm history/status/specification), or
- You need to confirm the vehicle’s identity, or
- You are providing a service related to the vehicle, such as:
- repairing/servicing/modifying it
- arranging insurance or finance
- preventing or investigating suspected fraud/crime related to the vehicle
You must not use the Services for unlawful purposes or to misuse personal data.
Section 05
Accounts, access and emails
Some Services may require you to create an account or log in. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure.
You must provide a valid email address. If you enter an incorrect email address, you may not receive your report link. We are not responsible for failed delivery due to incorrect contact details.
Section 06
Our products
Car Facts UK may offer:
- Basic Check (Free) – a summary view based on available data
- Full Vehicle History Report (Paid) – a more detailed report, which may include theft/write-off indicators, MOT history, vehicle specification, valuation and other checks subject to availability. Finance information is only included where it is available to us and enabled through the relevant data provider.
- Bundles / Multi-check credits – credits that can be redeemed to unlock paid reports
- Vehicle Comparison – a side-by-side comparison feature and/or premium comparison report (see pricing page for what’s included)
What is included in any product is shown on the Website at time of purchase and may vary depending on data availability for a particular vehicle.
Section 07
Data sources, limitations and disclaimers
- Third-party data: Our reports compile information supplied by third-party data providers and datasets. Availability varies by vehicle and over time.
- Not guaranteed: We do not guarantee that any report is complete, accurate, or up to date. Data can be missing, delayed, or incorrect at source.
- Advisory use only: Reports are provided for information purposes only and should not be relied on as the sole basis for any purchase, safety, financial or legal decision.
- Not DVLA/DVSA: We are not affiliated with DVLA/DVSA, and our reports are not official DVLA/DVSA documents.
Section 08
Pricing and payment
- Prices are shown in GBP (£) and may change at any time.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details.
- By purchasing, you authorise Stripe to charge your chosen payment method.
Section 09
Delivery of reports and access period
- Paid reports are typically delivered as soon as possible after successful payment and retrieval of data from third parties.
- Your report will be accessible via a link on the Website and/or by email.
- Paid provider report data is available for 7 days after report generation and is then removed under the Car Facts UK premium-data retention process. MOT, tax, reminder-safe data, transaction records and audit evidence may be retained separately where required for account, reminder, compliance, fraud prevention or legal purposes.
Note: Report access and the availability of underlying premium provider data are not the same thing. Some report/account information may remain visible while premium provider payloads are removed under our retention process.
Section 10
Delays, errors and service availability
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by factors outside our reasonable control, including:
- third-party data source downtime or delays
- internet or hosting issues
- Stripe outages
- maintenance and security updates
If we cannot provide the paid report due to a technical fault on our side or a third-party data failure, you may be eligible for a refund (see Section 11).
Section 11
Refunds and duplicate purchases
Refunds are handled in accordance with our Refund Policy.
11.1 When we may refund
We may refund you, usually to the original payment method, where either of the following applies:
- we are unable to provide the paid report due to a technical error within our system
- the relevant third-party data cannot be retrieved and we cannot deliver the paid product you purchased
11.2 When we may not refund
To the extent permitted by law, we may not provide a refund where either of the following applies:
- the report was successfully delivered and accessible, subject to your statutory rights and our Refund Policy
- you entered an incorrect email address, but the report was still made available on-site to your session/account
Duplicate purchases: If you believe you were charged twice for the same report or product due to a payment or system error, contact us and we will review the issue under our Refund Policy.
Consumer rights: Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
11.3 How to request support/refunds
Contact us via:
- Support email: support@carfactsuk.co.uk
Include: VRM, purchase email, date/time, and a brief description of the issue.
Section 12
Multi-check bundles / credits
If you purchase a bundle (e.g., 3 checks or 5 checks), you receive credits that can be redeemed for paid reports.
- Credits are associated with your account.
- Redeeming a credit unlocks one paid report for one vehicle (unless stated otherwise).
- Credits are non-transferable and have no cash value.
- If you try to redeem a credit for a vehicle report you already own, the system may open the existing report instead of generating a duplicate report.
Section 13
Vehicle comparison
Vehicle comparison products allow two vehicles to be compared side by side. The pricing page shows what is included before purchase.
- any paid reports or checks included with a comparison are identified on the pricing page before purchase
- comparison results remain subject to the availability and accuracy of the underlying vehicle data
Section 14
Salvage history and images
Where salvage history or images are shown, they may only be available for some vehicles and only where included in third-party datasets. If a vehicle is recorded as written off but no images exist in available sources, no refund is due solely because images are not available.
Section 15
Acceptable use
You must not:
- scrape, copy, or resell the Services or report content without permission
- attempt to reverse engineer or bypass security
- use the Services for unlawful purposes or harassment
- submit VRMs in bulk using automated tools without our written consent
We may suspend or block access for suspected misuse.
Section 16
Intellectual property
All content, branding, report layouts, design, and text on the Website are owned by or licensed to Car Facts UK and protected by intellectual property laws.
You may use your purchased report for your own personal purposes. You must not resell, redistribute or commercially exploit the report or its content without our permission.
Section 17
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We provide the Website and Services “as is” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- We are not liable for losses arising from reliance on report data, including purchase decisions, financial loss, business loss, or missed opportunities.
- We do not exclude liability where it cannot legally be excluded (e.g., fraud, or death/personal injury caused by negligence).
Section 18
Governing law
These Terms and your use of the Website are governed by English law, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
